Where do lessons take place?
At Hong Kong Strings in Central.
How long and how frequent are the lessons?
Usually 45 or 60 minutes weekly.
Do you have a cancellation and makeup policy?
No, but please let me know as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule.
Do you teach during school holidays or summer?
Yes, unless I'm on holiday!
How do I pay for lessons?
You will receive an invoice at the end of each month. Payment can be made by cash, transfer, and all major credit cards.
How much do private cello lessons cost in Central, Hong Kong?
Lessons with Ron Wilson at Hong Kong Strings Ltd are HK$1,000 for 45 minutes and HK$1,300 for 60 minutes.
How do I enquire about cello lessons?

Equipment & materials
Do I need to bring my own cello to lessons?
You can if you prefer, but for convenience most students use the cellos I have available at Hong Kong Strings.
Where can I rent or buy a reliable instrument?
Hong Kong Strings has cellos to rent and buy.
What accessories do I need to buy?
You will need rosin, an endpin stopper, tuner, music, and a music stand.
Experience & suitability
What age children do you teach?
I teach from P3 upwards (age 7/8).
Am I too old to start learning as an adult?
No, it's never too late to start!
Do I need to know how to read music beforehand?
Some knowledge is certainly helpful but not essential.
Do you prepare students for exams or auditions?
Yes, ABRSM and Trinity practical exams to diploma level and theory to Grade 8.
Practice & progress
How much do I need to practice each day?
Regular practice reaps the best results even if it's just a few minutes each day. I'd suggest 15–20 minutes for beginners and up to 90 minutes for advanced players.
How long will it take before I can play a recognizable song?
With a little practice, just a few weeks!
Do parents need to sit in on the lessons?
It's not necessary but absolutely fine if it makes the child feel more comfortable.
